Mint Check Balloon Sleeve Shirt: Meet Bubblegum

Bubblegum oxford cotton mint check balloon sleeve shirt by Poppy & Co

Some shirts tell you everything at first glance. The Bubblegum Shirt in mint check keeps one thing back. From the front, it is a crisp oxford cotton shirt with big, soft balloon sleeves. Turn around, and there is a pink-and-white striped popsicle stitched onto the back. We wanted the front not to have all the fun.

Meet the mint check balloon sleeve shirt

The Bubblegum Shirt started life in pink. The original Bubblegum Cloud Sleeve Shirt was a quiet favourite, so we brought the same shape back in a cooler colour: a mint green and white micro check. It is part of what we call the Bubblegum Edit, one silhouette told in different moods.

The check is small and even, so from a few steps away it reads almost like a soft mint solid. Up close, you see the weave. It is the kind of colour that sits well against Indian skin tones and feels fresh on a warm afternoon.

The details that make it

Pure oxford cotton

We cut this shirt from 100% oxford cotton. Oxford has a slightly textured, basket-like weave that breathes well and softens a little more with every wash. It holds the shape of the sleeves without feeling stiff, which matters when you are wearing a shirt all day in Bangalore's in-between weather.

Balloon sleeves

The sleeves are the statement. They are full through the arm and gather softly at the elbow with an elasticated cuff, so they stay where you put them. They give the shirt its shape without adding bulk to the body.

The popsicle on the back

The popsicle is not printed. It is a fabric appliqué, cut from striped cotton and stitched onto the back by hand. It is our "Pop" in the most literal sense: a small pop of colour that you only see as you walk away.

The fit

The cut is relaxed and boxy, and it sits at the hip. There is a classic collar and a V-placket neckline. The collar was shaped with fuller busts in mind, so it sits flat instead of pulling.

How to style the Bubblegum Shirt

This is an everyday shirt with a little personality, so keep the rest simple and let it do the talking.

  • Weekend errands: wear it loose over flared or straight blue denim with woven flats or kolhapuris. The mint and the denim do all the work.
  • Garden lunch or a slow Sunday brunch: half-tuck it into a white or pink midi skirt. The balloon sleeves balance a fuller skirt nicely.
  • Work days: tuck it fully into high-waisted cream trousers and add small gold hoops. It is playful without being loud in a meeting.
  • Evenings out as it cools down: pair it with black straight-leg trousers and a bright pink bag that picks up the popsicle on the back.

Since it is pure cotton, it is a good pick for the warmer weeks around Diwali gatherings and daytime get-togethers, when you want to look dressed without wearing something heavy.

Caring for oxford cotton

Machine wash cold, line dry in the shade, and iron warm on the reverse so the appliqué stays neat. That is all it asks for.
