White Shirt with Pink Gingham Yoke: Cherry Picnic
We started with a scoop of vanilla white. Then we added a little pink gingham, turned up the volume at the back, and decided that getting dressed should feel a lot more like getting dessert. That is the Cherry Picnic Shirt: sweet, but not too sweet, and always better with a cherry on top.

A white cotton shirt with a surprise at the back
From the front, the Cherry Picnic Shirt is a clean, optic white shirt with a classic collar. Look closely and there is a tiny red cherry at the collar. Turn around, and a baby pink gingham yoke runs across the shoulders, with soft pleats falling from it into a swingy, airy back.
It is the kind of shirt that looks simple in a photo taken head-on and gets a second look as you walk away. That small pop of pink is the whole point.
The details
Pure cotton poplin
The body is 100% cotton poplin: smooth, crisp and light. The yoke is cotton gingham. Both breathe well, which matters on a warm Bangalore afternoon when the sun is out between the clouds.
The pleated swing back
The pleats open from the yoke, so the back has movement without the front feeling boxy. With dropped shoulders and wide, elbow-length sleeves, there is plenty of room to move, reach and carry a picnic basket.
The finishing
A curved hem and side slits keep it easy to wear loose or knotted. The red cherry at the collar is small enough to be a secret and bright enough to notice.
How we styled it
For the shoot, we kept it simple: the shirt worn loose over dark flared denim with woven flats, under a pergola full of pink bougainvillea. The pink in the gingham picks up the flowers, and the dark denim lets the white stay crisp. Here are a few more ways to wear it.
- Weekend errands and coffee: loose over dark flared or wide-leg jeans with woven flats or kolhapuris. The swing back does all the work.
- A garden lunch or a picnic: knot the front over a summer skirt. A pink or red skirt echoes the gingham and the cherry.
- Work days: half-tuck the front into cream or navy trousers and add small gold hoops. Polished from the front, playful from behind.
- Festive season daytime plans: with Diwali get-togethers around the corner, it is a light, breathable pick for daytime visits and long lunches, paired with straight trousers and a bright potli or tote.
